Last month, Meghan McCain was scheduled to come to Juniata College to talk about her new book, “Dirty Sexy Politics.” Her speech was highly anticipated by the Juniata community but several days before she was to arrive the speech was canceled due to “unforeseen professional engagements.” The Juniata community was disappointed but understood until McCain’s twitter read, “headed to sin city with my favorite crew of sinners.” After discovering that McCain canceled on our school to party, Juniata students have mixed opinions about whether her speech should be rescheduled or not.

Travis Raup ’11, Danville, Pa.:
“I have lost interest in Meghan McCain coming back to Juniata since she obviously had “prior commitments” and we would not want to intrude in her busy schedule again. With no apology and the lame Las Vegas trip excuse, I would not want to see her on this campus. We deserve a whole lot better.”

Paula Price ’11, Camp Hill, Pa.:
“Juniata College students should not be punished because of her actions. I feel as though she would be a great speaker and a lot of students would attend her lecture.”

Joyce Eveleth ’11, State College, Pa.:
“I think she showed Juniata College a lot of disrespect by not coming to speak and partying instead. We shouldn’t have to cater to her whims of when she wants to present to us. In addition, I can’t take her seriously anymore. This is a serious mark on her intelligence.”

Suzi Linquist ’12, Richmond, Va.:
“I would not have gone to see her the first time, but now I would go just to ask her why she didn’t come and why she did what she did. Just because we are a small school doesn’t mean we aren’t in the know, she has thousands of followers on Twitter.”

Zach Gordon ’11, Wilmington, Del.:
“I understand things come up, but a surprise trip to Las Vegas doesn’t sit with me as a reason for ditching your speaking obligation. She needs to make things right and come speak.”
