3D Movies: Great or Gimmick?
The past few years has seen a rash of 3D movies hitting theatres — even old movies remade in 3D. Is this a genuine cinematic development of just another Hollywood gimmick?
Ed Sinnes ’12, Waldorf, Md.: I think they’re just unnecessary.
Alejandro Escribano, international student from Spain: I have not seen many 3D films but “Harry Potter,“ and I did not like it very much.
Nicky Deak ’12, New York, N.Y.:2012 – In some movies it’s pretty cool like “Avatar,” but most of the time it doesn’t work.
Nick Talisman ’12, Bethesda, Md.: I think that if they are done to complement an already well-made and visually ambitious movie they can definitely help, but if it’s used in a gimmicky way where it becomes the main attraction, it significantly undermines the movie industry.
Aaron Adams ’12, Albuquerque, N.M.: They were cool when they first came out but now they’re just redundant.
