Voting in Concert: Make Your Music Heard
Each spring, Juniata hosts a major event for students by booking and bringing in a well-known music artist. The annual concert brings the entire college together and gives students a venue to let loose and have a little fun. Previous years’ artists have included Fabolus, Matt Nathanson, and Gloriana among others.
Ever since this year’s choices were named, there has been an immense amount of buzz and talk on which one out of the five artists should come to campus. Students are currently casting their votes for their favorite. The choices are Mac Miller, Mike Posner, Chiddy Bang, Chris Webby, and Sam Adams, some of the music industry’s hottest up-and-coming artists. An overwhelming number of students have expressly touted their preference for Mac Miller, an up-and-coming rapper from Pittsburgh. JC students discuss their choice below.
Rob Schultz ’12, Philadelphia, Pa.: “I would love to see Chris Webby come to Juniata. He’s a lot like Mac Miller, but not as big yet. I’d like to see him because I’ve been a fan of him since I first introduced his music to my friends at the end of my sophomore year. I also had the chance to see him perform when my friends (Absolute Pursuit) opened a show for him this summer, and it was one of the best concerts I’ve been too.”
Carianne Turin ’12, Greensburg, Pa.: “I want Mac Miller to come so every other school will be jealous.”
Corey Lacy ’14, Baltimore, Md.: “I really would want Mac Miller to come because I think it would be great to have a rap artist at Juniata and have a different genre represented other than rock or country. Also, Mac Miller is pretty popular and might become even more so as the year goes on.”
Holly Brandes ’12, State College, Pa.: “Mac Miller is an amazing artist from Pittsburgh. He became famous with his single “Donald Trump”, but all of his new music has been impressive. I admire the fact that he’s an independent artist who’s trying to become successful on his own merit. I’ve been following him from the beginning, and I believe he’s incredibly talented and will give a good concert. The choices this year are way better than previous years’ choices.”
Casey Hoffman ’12, Allentown, Pa.: “Mac Miller, because I’ve seen him perform before, and he’s amazing to see perform live — a real crowd pleaser. I think he’d do a great job here and a lot of people know about him.”
Jessica Koenig ’12, Milford, Pa.: “Mac Miller because he is great party music.”
