Juniata College - Campus Opinions

Campus Opinions

On-Field Advantage: Potential New JC Sports

Juniata sports teams are integral to many of our students’ identities and add much to the campus social environment.  A large proportion of Juniata students play on a varsity sports team, and part of Juniata’s athletic mission statement is “emphasize fair play and sportsmanship working in union with a high degree of competitiveness in all varsity programs.”  Many of our sports teams, including the Women’s field hockey team and the Women’s volleyball team, are consistently at the top of the conference rankings as well as being division or national champions.

In honor of Juniata’s strong enthusiasm for athletics, we asked students what new sports teams they would like to be put in place that Juniata currently does not offer:

Jake Hartberger ’12, Muhlenberg, Pa.: “Lacrosse because I think it would attract a lot of prospects, and I would definitely go watch the games.”

Pat Cassidy ’14, Hollidaysburg, Pa.: “Definitely lacrosse because it is a well-known sport that many people of both genders can play.”

Hillary Palmer ’14, Fayetteville, Ga.: “Men’s swimming for sure because we don’t have as many men’s teams on campus.”

Scott Hammer ’12, Altoona, Pa.: “A lifting team, which would help make the campus more health-conscious.”

Lindsay Darchicourt ’12, Boiling Springs, Pa.: “I think a lot of people here played lacrosse in high school and would be interested in playing.”
