Pinterest: A new social networking experience

Pinterest is a pinboard style social photo sharing website. The website allows users to create and manage theme based picture collections that include users’ interests, activities and hobbies. It is one of the fastest growing social services in the world next to Facebook and Twitter. Juniata students comment on the new social media experience.

Courtney Lydick ’14, McKean, Pa.:

I just recently have gotten into Pinterest. It is new and different from Facebook and Twitter so it provides a new experience for users. Whereas Twitter and Facebook just use words, Pinterest uses pictures and images to create a pinboard which is more interesting to users.

Amy Miller ’14, Chesapeake, Va.:

Pinterest is a nice visual display of things a person likes. You can search for almost anything on Pinterest that is of interest to you. Once you find something you can “pin” it to your board to create a collection of “pins.”

Carly Hinish ’12, Lewistown, Pa.:

The website allows me to look at things like fashion, humor, home decorations and vacation spots. It is like a fantasy, made-up life that you create on the Internet.

Katie McDonald ’14, Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa.:

I have not used Pinterest before but I see a lot of people using it. Usually, people use it for fashion posts but people have shown me a lot of funny and humorous posts that are on there as well.

Alex Shope ’12, Hershey, Pa.:

People like to waste a lot of time on Pinterest. My girlfriend especially spends a lot of time on there. It is like the new Facebook or Twitter targeted more towards females.

Alum (’64), not a student, but thought I would comment anyway. I have been tempted to give Printerest A try but for now will stick with FACEBOOK and Juniata Connect for my social networking. Do have a friend that is a prospective JC student (high school senior) who think it is GREAT! I guess this old mind can only handle a limited number of these various programs!
