Gettysburg Preview

Offensively, Gettysburg leads the nation in total yards per game. They have outstanding skill players in four year starter QB Matt Flynn, and running backs Jamal Mutunga and Ricky Manigat. They can attack you with the run, the pass, and their speed is excellent. It will be a tremendous challenge for our defense. We must play assignment football and be very physical.
Defensively, Gettysburg is a 4-3 scheme and they will play an eight man front. Their leading tackler is defensive lineman Sebastian Sullivan. He is very talented. They do a great job of not giving up the big play and they are disciplined in their alignments and assignments. On offense, we must play smart and be effective both running and throwing the football.
Hopefully you can make the trip to Gettysburg. It is their homecoming game so it will be a great atmosphere for small college football.

Muhlenberg Review

Our defense played an extremely physical football game this past Saturday. They responded to the challenges that they faced. All eleven players had excellent pursuit to the football and did an outstanding job of tackling.
Brandon Spayd (strong safety from Huntingdon HS in Huntingdon PA) performed at a high level. He had 13 solo tackles and seemed to be around the football all day. Defensive lineman Dan Kraft (Eastern York HS in York PA) played very well in the trenches. He was in Muhlenberg’s backfield for the majority of the contest.
Offensively, we did not play the way a Juniata offense is capable of playing. That has been uncharacteristic of our offense until this past Saturday. We are spending time all this week to correct our mistakes. Those errors we made as an offense had nothing to do with what Muhlenberg did on defense.

Muhlenberg Preview
Muhlenberg is one of the most physical team we have faced thus far. The offensive line averages 6’3 and 275lbs and their front seven on defense play downhill and fast. Offensively they rely on using multiple formations and they will try to establish the running game. Their running backs and tight ends are very talented. They have one big play wide receiver who they try to get the ball to in many different ways.
Defensively they are a 3-4 scheme and will rely on their pressure package to confuse and cause havoc to the offense. This week in practice we are working hard to recognize what they will do and are working to pick up the blitz package. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the game,

McDaniel Preview

MCDANIEL PREVIEW
We match up athletically with McDaniel on both sides of the ball. We are confident that we can make this a four quarter battle and have a chance to win the game. Special teams and field position will be a deciding factor in this game on Saturday.
If we do not give up big plays on defense and tackle well, and on offense make big plays and convert third downs, we will have success against McDaniel.
McDaniel is a very well coached team. They have a talented WR Matt Cahill and two quality RB’s in T.J. Develin and Ray O’Hara. They also have a 6’8 TE Woody Butler who can run and catch the ball. Defensively, they rely on being physical. Their LB’s Mike Weick and Tommy Prazenica do a great job of playing down hill.
Western Maryland (McDaniel) is my Alma Mater and I was one of Coach Keating’s first recruits when he took the program over 15 years ago.
We are looking forward to playing against the Green Terror on Saturday!! Hope to see some familiar faces on the road at Westminster, MD this weekend.
Franklin and Marshall Review

Football games are decided by 8 or 9 plays. Unfortunately, as a coach or player, you do not know when those plays will occur. Against Franklin & Marshall we had opportunities to make plays which had an impact on the outcome of the game. F&M made those plays and we didn’t. That is why we trailed 34-0 at halftime.
Defensively, corner Andy Miller (from Manheim Township HS in Lancaster, PA) and defensive lineman (Jason Marquis from Jeannette HS in Jeannette, PA) played outstanding football. They played extremely hard, played fast, and made the most of their opportunities to make plays.
Offensively wide receiver Abram Mellinger, (who attended Lampeter-Strasburg HS and is from Ronks, PA) and offensive lineman John Hill, (who attended the Hun School and is from Pennington, NJ) both performed at a high level. Abram made 3 tough catches and scored a TD, while John Hill did not allow a sack and physically played the way an offensive lineman should.
We can learn many things from the F & M game. The game of football can instill and teach you lessons which you can use throughout your life. Here is what I think our team can take away from the F & M game:
1. Play as a team no matter what the circumstances are
2. Keep fighting for 60 minutes and strive to be productive on each play
3. Adversity reveals our true character
Our players stayed together in the 2nd half, they competed in the 2nd half, and we have outstanding character as a football team.
Ursinus Review and Franklin and Marshall Preview

Ursinus Review
Ursinus played an excellent football game in all three areas. We played solidly in spurts, but we must start to put together four quarters of quality football. We improved in certain areas, and a lot of our young players competed at a high level.
As we tell our players, success is not a final destination, but a journey. We are making strides in our journey to reach the expectations of our football program.
Franklin and Marshall Preview
Franklin and Marshall is strong in the secondary and physical with their front seven. It will be a challenge for our offense. They are very multiple on offense and have playmakers at every position. Our defense must be able to recognize how they are attacking us and not give up any big plays.
Hope to see you at the game.
