It’s Almost Spring Break

Yet again I am sorry for not having posted in weeks. I do have a long list of excuses but I will spare you most of them. The main reason I have been MIA was due to a wicked illness which is sweeping the campus which has affectionately been deemed “The Juniata Plague.” Everyone has been dropping like flies between flu season and some other unknown illness which I became a victim to. However, you will be happy to know I am back in action!

The semester has been passing with a dizzying rate and I can not believe spring break is only a day away! It feels like I just got home from England and it is already time for spring break! Time surely flies when you are having fun… and/or drowning in a sea of work. Either way I can’t wrap my head around the fact that it is almost March!

So spring break… I can see you asking yourself, “What does a Juniata Student do on said break?” Well, I would be happy to tell you my plans! Being a member of the college’s chapter of Habitat for Humanity, myself and 27 other students will be driving (yes driving) 17 hours to FLORIDA! I would love to say we are spending the week sunbathing on Miami Beach, but we are actually doing something so much better! We will be working on some builds in Lakeland which is about an hour or so from Orlando. The week will be spent building from 8-2 and then the rest of the day will be dedicated to relaxing, or in my case, studying. Yes, I have two exams the week I come back… no, I don’t want to talk about it. However, we will be spending one day at the beach so all is not lost!

Speaking of warm places, I recently heard from Susie (my Aussie flatmate in Leeds!) She just got back to Australia after a month of traveling Europe. She was complaining about how hot the summer is there and how she got burnt at the beach (I feel so sorry for her.) I also heard from Eduardo and Sarah and everyone is back home and doing well. I haven’t been able to use Skype with anyone yet, mainly due to the time differences which I hope to resolve soon!

Alright, I think that is all for now! I will be back after spring break with TONS of pictures from Florida!

CHEERS!

Return to JC

Hello all! Gosh it’s been absoutely forever since I’ve written an update! If you haven’t already guessed, I have survived my second cross-Atlantic flight and arrived back in the United States safe and sound. Of course the weather never cooperates during my travels and getting home was quite an experiene.

I woke up at 5AM or so, caught the early train from Leeds to Manchester, got delayed in Manchester for 2 hours, flew into Newark NJ but missed my connecting flight so ended up flying to Cleveland, had a 4 hour lay-over there and finally got a flight from Cleveland back to Pittsburgh. I was supposed to be in Pittsburgh by 3PM but didn’t end up getting there until 11PM or so. Coming home was so bittersweet but I was so happy once I got to see my dad again. My mother and brother and boyfriend got the chance to come visit me, but my father always stayed behind. It was great to give him a big hug once I got off the plane!

The days following my return were rather hectic with preparing for Christmas and re-adjusting to US culture. Christmas and New Year’s passed without much excitement and then I went to Geisinger in Danville PA for an 8 day internship/shadowing program which was AMAZING! I got the chance to do rounds with a general medicine team as well as the neonatal intensive care team. I also watched neuro/spinal surgery and an endoscopic gastic bypass. On top of all that I spend time in numerous clinics ranging from opthemology to oncology. It was a great experience that I am lucky to have had.

Classes resumed at JC the third week in January and I’ve been here ever since! It was pretty easy to fall back into the system here and I’ve been busy busy busy! I am taking Physiology, Physics II, History of God, Abnormal Phychology, and Choral Union this semester. So far I am really enjoying all of my classes! On top of classes I am working at the Enrollment Center being an assistant to the Dean as well as giving tours every week. Like I said, life is quite busy once again… I’m just not traveling anymore! So I guess things haven’t really changed that much since I left… in fact it feels like I never left at all. Sometimes I have to look at all my pictures from Europe to remind myself that I was actually there and it wasn’t all just a dream.

Tonight I have my first physics exam so wish me luck! This weekend I have to write an 8-10 page paper on the development of monotheism as well as study for a physiology exam which are both on Monday! EEK! Talk about busy!

I’ll stay in touch as much as possible! Take care!

CHEERS!
(That is here to stay!)
