Primary Role 

Manages international and study abroad student services. 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of international student and study abroad services, especially related to immigration and visa advising and student programming activities.   
  • Manages immigration services for nonimmigrant students and assists with employees / scholars immigration advising including maintaining current and accurate information on Department of Homeland Security regulations and procedures.
  • Serve as the Designated School Official for F-1 nonimmigrant students and Alternate Responsible Officer for J-1 nonimmigrant students.
  • Manages study abroad visa services.  
  • Manages pre-departure planning and communication with study abroad students, including maintaining current and accurate information on US State Department procedures and visa application processes and pre-departure planning information on the web for study abroad students including such as program dates, appropriate institutional and country resources, etc. 
  • Assists the Dean of the Center for International Education in the budget management of the office.  Oversees financial transactions such as billings, vouchers, etc. and prepares budget reports.
  • Track and maintain incoming international student and study abroad applicant files.  
  • Manage pre-arrival planning and communication (including acceptance packet mailings) with new international students.
  • Enter new international student information in campus Datatel system and coordinate with appropriate on-campus offices to incept new students (Registrar, Residential Life, Academic Support Services, etc.), including liaising with academic departments to process advance registration for incoming exchange students. 
  • Oversees international student orientation.
  • Assists the Dean with assessment implementation of assessment and related reporting for international students and scholars. 
  • Other duties as assigned in support of the Dean

Supervision Required/Given

Works with considerable independence.  Supervises the International Services Coordinator as it relates to international and study abroad student services.  Also supervises student assistants in the CIE.  Must work collaboratively with diverse individuals, including faculty and other groups.   

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred and at least five-years experience working in an international education office.   
  • Requires ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. 
  • Experience in an educational administrative office setting, with strong written and oral communication skills and PC-based office software, especially and web page editing.
  • Must have and continue to develop a working knowledge of federal immigration rules and regulations, specifically with F and J visa regulations and Student Exchange Visitor Information System SEVIS functionality. 
  • Must be a citizen or Permanent Resident of the United States of America.
