New Strategic Plan Process

With a record enrollment and the completion of the highly successful Uncommon Outcomes Campaign most of the elements in the 2001 Strategic Plan have been accomplished. The time is right and we have the momentum to boldly consider Juniata's future through development of a new and challenging strategic plan.

Juniata will celebrate its sesquicentennial in 2026. While it is anticipated that the new plan will have a focus on the period of 2007-2012, the direction we set for the College between now and then will define our legacy for future generations of students.

Recognizing that no educational institution can plan for the future in isolation from the society it serves, and that no independent college can flourish without the direct involvement and support of the wider community, the Juniata Board of Trustees is inviting alumni, faculty, students, parents, administrators and friends to assist them in assessing Juniata and its role in serving the 21st Century.

As an input to this process, Juniata will conduct a series of consultations with academic and administrative departments and student groups. Individuals attending these briefings will be asked to respond to the following questions using the perspective of the next twenty years:

  1. What are the characteristics of the students we have been most effective in educating?
  2. Will demographic changes result in students who differ from those we traditionally have served and how should the college respond?
  3. What two things about Juniata would you consider to be our greatest assets?
  4. What two things about Juniata would you consider to be our greatest weaknesses?
  5. What is the greatest threat to Juniata that you believe we are likely to face?
  6. What two improvements to the campus would be the most desirable in enhancing the educational experience?
  7. What two improvements to the campus would be the most desirable in improving the experience of students outside the classroom?
  8. What one change to the curricula do you believe to offer the greatest advantage to our students?
  9. Outside of the classroom, what program of the college would be of greater benefit to students if it is enhanced?
  10. As you think about your experience at Juniata, what are you most passionate about?
  11. What is the best educational measure of our success?
  12. What is the best economic measure of our success?
  13. How well are we using our resources?
  14. What is our mission? Our goal at Juniata is to provide extraordinary opportunities to help our students prepare for a fulfilling life in a global setting. Does our mission need to be revisited and how do you define a fulfilling life in a global community?
  15. What would you absolutely not change about Juniata?
