BI 305: Biostatistics
“Statistics” refers to the scientific study of numerical data, the collection, organization and interpretation of data to help scientists learn about the world. “Biostatistics” refers to the application of probability and statistics to the solution of biological problems. Statistics are tools used to investigate and understand physical universe, when truth isn’t obvious. Biological parameters are inherently variable, and the truth is seldom obvious. Statistical theory and methods provide a framework for understanding variation, and distinguishing random from non-random events.
