In Our Community

Life-long learning in and through the Arts is a major part of our mission for all members of the community. Typical residencies include master classes, open rehearsals, lectures, lecture/demonstrations, and participatory workshops. For more information please call 814-641-3608.

In 2011-12 all eight of our visiting artists participated in outreach programs in our community.

Workshops and Clinics

Artists participating in this year’s program include:

SO Percussion will be in residence for a week in August creating their new work Where (we) Live. Our community is invited to open rehearsals and a work in progress showing. Where (we) Live premieres at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis in September and heads to BAM’s 30th Next Wave Festival 2012 in December.

Camille A. Brown and Dancers will be in residence for a few weeks in September building their new piece Mr. Tol E. Rance. Our community is invited to join in on conversations around the work and to a work in progress performance at the Grier School. Mr. Tol E. Rance premieres at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater in Pittsburgh in September. Camille A. Brown and Dancers will return to Juniata in January and will present workshops for regional students.

Papermoon Puppet Theatre will present puppetry workshops for those of all ages.

Prior to Brooklyn Rundfunk Orkestrata's Hills are Alive performance, Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music will be presented on the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts lawn followed by a discussion.

Dala will present a worksop for regional high school students.

Eileen Ivers and The Immigrant Soul will discuss and play the music of Ireland to local school students, showcasing a variety of traditional Irish instruments as well as modern instruments that have entered the tradition over the past 50 years.

Stew and the Negro Problem will host a song writing workshop and discussion.

The SITI Company will present a Viewpoint Class to area theatre students.

ETHEL and Robert Mirabal will host a workshop for local and regional musicians.
