CNS Advisory - E-MAIL SERVER BLACKLISTED DUE TO COMPRISED ACCOUNTS
Juniata's outbound email server was blacklisted this past week due to spam being sent from two compromised email accounts. We have identified the compromised accounts and have eliminated the problem; however, we are still working to get our email server de-listed. If you are sending important email, you may wish to make sure it reaches the intended recipient by requesting a reply or by following up with a phone call.
This advisory will be updated as soon as our server has been removed from the blacklist.
The accounts were compromised by users submitting their username and password in response to a phishing scam. Please remember that we will never send you an email requesting that you reply with your username and password or ask you to click on a link to submit your password in a web form without proper notification through the Announcements and CNS Advisories. All account changes are requested in person or via phone or email directly from a CTS employee or within information that is distributed via a CNS Advisory. If you ever feel uncertain about whether a request for your Juniata password is legitimate, please call the Help Desk at x3619 (814-641-3619) first.
Phishing scams are designed to steal your account information and gain access to our college network. If you are concerned that you have inadvertently given out your Juniata password, please CLICK HERE for instructions on how to change your password immediately.
Signs that your account has been compromised include a large number of undeliverable messages arriving in your inbox and a lot of messages that you DID not send showing up in your Sent Items folder.
