Intern of the Month
In the summer of 2013, Laura Vannucci had the opportunity to be a Public Safety Intern for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Conchas Lake. She was able to find this internship through the Student Conservation Association. The internship allowed her to run Water Safety Programs with children in the area through SCA and AmeriCorps. Laura had to contact organizations, schools, camps, schedule, and plan programs. Along with these tasks, she produced PSAs and patrolled the park with rangers. She had the opportunity to work in the Southwest with a new group of people. The main focus of her internship was getting real life experience working with water safety events. Next year, Laura will begin an International 3-2 Master’s Program in Lille, France for Pollution Management. She will graduate from Juniata in 2015. This internship really sparked her interest in becoming a park ranger after college, leading her to do the 3-2 program. She wishes to return to Conchas Lake in the future to conduct additional research.
