General Overview
Social work is the study of the formal processes which have been instituted to assist those in our society who are unable to cope with serious interpersonal and social problems. Study in this field is aimed at helping the needy and disadvantaged in such areas as child and drug abuse, juvenile delinquency and crime, hunger and financial budgeting, unemployment, health care and mental illness, disabilities, education, parenting, family problems, home repair, etc. Some of the main areas of specialization are health care and mental health, school, family services, child welfare, drug abuse, gerontology, clinical, and occupational.
