Americans With Disabilities Act Guidelines

Juniata College is committed to complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and ensuring equal opportunity in employment for qualified persons with disabilities. The ADA specifically prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in employment. All employment practices are conducted on a non-discriminatory basis. The employee must notify and provide documentation to the College of the existence of any qualifying disability and any "reasonable accommodation" necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.

Under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the term "disability" means, with respect to an individual:

*Major life activities include functions such as caring for one's self, performing manual tasks, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning, and working.

The Office of Human Resources will work with all employees and their supervisors in determining the most effective accommodations that can be reasonably provided on an individual basis. Written requests for "reasonable accommodations" should be made to supervisors or the Office of Human Resources.
