Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the DMZ?

The DMZ is short for the Digital Media Zone. It is located within the Brumbaugh Academic Center, in room A101, right behind Alumni Hall.

I have an event that I would like to have filmed. How do I get the DMZ to help?

The DMZ covers most traditional Juniata events, but is typically unable to film extra events. The requestor is responsible for obtaining the permission of a speaker for filming before the time of the event. Contacting the student manager (Kyle McClure) via email at mcclusk3@juniata.edu as soon as you know the details of the event is the best way to have your event considered for production. If the DMZ is unable to film your event, cameras are available for free rental at the Teaching Learning Technology Center. We are unable to film class presentations.

When is the DMZ open?

The DMZ is open during the school year from 9 am until 5 pm Monday - Friday. Additionally, time can be scheduled during other hours with the student employees as requested, or you can try your luck and just stop down as the students tend to inhabit the DMZ at random intervals. During the summer the DMZ is open from 8 am until 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday.

About how long will my project take to be filmed and edited?

Although every project is different, the DMZ staff can be asked to fast-track a project if it is time critical. Video editing takes a substantial amount of time, however the DMZ will work as hard and as fast as possible to ensure quality results in every production.
The details of post-production time and obligations should also be worked out with the student manager before filming begins.

Can the DMZ help me copy CDs and DVDs?

If it's for academic purposes, and you need a large quantity of copies, the DMZ can certainly help you. You must provide your own media (CD-Rs for CD copies, and DVD-Rs for DVD recording). If you need to transfer media to another type of media (transferring a VHS onto DVD, for example), a transfer tower is available in the Teaching Learning Technology Center.

Something else?

If you still have questions regarding specific productions, or equipment capabilities, then we would be happy to answer them. The student manager of the DMZ (Neil Perrin) can be contacted via email at perrina04@juniata.edu or by phone (814)641-5328, and you can also always e-mail Nathan Wagoner at wagonen@juniata.edu if you have concerns with academic productions.
