Technology
The Digital Media Zone is equipped with technology that allows for the production of broadcast-quality digital video. The studio is located within the Brumbaugh Academic Center. Rooms A101 and A102 are located behind the Alumni Hall auditorium.
Computer Video Editing Suites
The DMZ has four Macintosh G5 editing suites. The suites are equipped with Final Cut Studio 2 HD (Final Cut Pro 6, Soundtrack Pro 2, DVD Studio Pro 5, Motion 3), iLife '06 (iMovie HD, iDVD, GarageBand), Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended, and Macromedia Flash 8.
Video Production Room
The Video Production Room is home to the DMZ's cameras and Green Screen. The Green Screen is used in conjunction with an effect called Chroma Keying to create professional-looking overlays that we've dubbed the "weatherman effect." There are also paper backdrops and lighting kits that can be used for the creation of interview setups.
The DMZ has three Sony HDR-FX1 cameras available for staff use. This allows the students to produce video in 16:9 and High Definition.
Archive & Storage
The DMZ's Archive is in room C222 on the second floor of the BAC. The Archive uses a searchable database system called "Media Manager" (created by the web development students) to store the meta data of the archived media. The creation of the Archive is still an ongoing process.
Serving the DMZ's digital storage needs is a 4 terabyte module on an XSAN (Storage Area Network). The DMZ also houses the affectionately-named DMZSERVER, a 1.2 terabytes-of-storage Windows machine, that stores documents, policies, recurring project information, media, and assorted other useful things.
