For this reason Juniata and PA-NAME have teamed with some very special partners to make your 2009 PA-NAME conference Sustainable, Convenient and Inexpensive.
What are we doing?
We have partnered with Amtrak to offer a discount rate to all 2009 PA-NAME conference attendees. The Amtrak station is less than 5 blocks from the Comfort Inn in Huntingdon. Click here for more information on how to get the PA-NAME Group Rate.
We will also be providing a shuttle service from the Comfort Inn to Juniata. This will serve the dual purpose of reducing parking congestion, as well as reducing emissions from hundreds of people driving to campus. This means less stress for you!
The Planning committees monthly meetings are taking place via SKYPE, an online video conferencing site that is not only free, but reduces the amount of travel, gas usage and time that conference planners have to use.
Virtually all conference materials and registration will be electronic. This will reduce the amount of paper and ink that must be used and each conference attendee will recieve a 512MB jump drive pre-loaded with powerpoints and handouts for each presentation, as well as session descriptions, presenter contact information and biographies. Using the jump drives not only allows us to not be limited by space, saves trees, saves MONEY on printing, but is also reusable!
For thie first time, we will be asking conference attendees to sign-up for each meal they plan to attend. While this will not affect the cost of the conference, it will help us better plan and reduce the amount of wasted food that is often generated by large gatherings. Also,you will notice, there will be no bottled beverages reducing the amount of non-biodegradable waste.
