"Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love"

Mira Nair combines the wisdom of an ancient Indian treatise
on sexuality with caste relationships of 16th century pre-colonial India in this sensuality filled picture. --"...It has a mood of overripe sensuality -- a commingling of skin, sweat, lust, and love -- that hits you like opium..." - Entertainment Weekly 03/21/1997

(114 minutes, English)

"Mixing Nia": Nia, an ad exec in New York City, becomes incensed and disillusioned with both her job and her lifestyle when she is asked to come up with an ad campaign aimed toward black youths. Nia decides that she wants to write the "Great African-American" novel, only to realize that she has completely lost touch with that side of her heritage. So, she quits her job and attempts to get in touch with her African-American heritage, causing a culture clash that teaches her more than a few things about being black in America.

"The Brothers": The Brothers is an absolutely hilarious romantic comedy that centers around a closely knit group of four African American men and the challenges they face in their friendships, relationships, and sex lives. The things they fear the most are commitment and honesty. But when one member of the group--the playboy--decides to get engaged, the others start to reconsider their values and the way they treat the women they love. A sincere, romantic comedy, this film is the directorial debut of Gary Hardwick.

"Brown Sugar": A hot ensemble cast featuring Taye Diggs, Sanaa Lathan, Queen Latifah and Mos Def shines in this romantic comedy about love and laughter in the world of Hip Hop.  Sydney (Lathan) and Dre (Diggs) are childhood friends who share a passion for music and an unsung love for each other.  But when Dre marries the wrong woman, Sydney must make her move or risk losing her soul mate forever.

"Whale Rider": A small Maori village faces a crisis when the heir to the leadership of the Ngati Konohi dies at birth and is survived only by his twin sister, Pai.  Although disregarded by her grandfather and shunned by the village people, twelve-year-old Pai remains certain of her calling and trains herself in the ways and customs of her people.  With remarkable grace, Pai finds the strength to challenge her family and embraces a thousand years of tradition in order to fulfill her destiny.

"Bread & Roses": From acclaimed director Ken Loach comes the gripping story of a group of immigrant workers who take a stand against the million dollar corporations who employ them.  Newly arrived illegal immigrant Maya (Pilar Padilla) has just joined her sister on the job as a janitor in a downtown LA office building.  Appalled at the work conditions and unfair labor practices, she teams up with Sam (Adrien Brody), a labor organizer, to fight their ruthless employer.
