Urinary Tract Infections (UTI)
A urinary tract infection (UTI) is a bacterial infection that can affect any portion of the urinary tract.
Symptoms of a UTI
- Pain or burning during urination.
- Urgent and frequent need to urinate that produces little output or urine.
- Pain in the lower back or abdomen.
- Blood in urine.
- Cloudy or thick urine.
Causes of UTI's
- Sexual activity, which can introduce bacteria into the urinary tract.
- STD's, which make it easier for bacteria to invade the body.
- Bacteria traveling from the rectal area.
- Not urinating frequently enough, which may cause a build-up of bacteria.
Students who experience the following symptoms in conjunction with a UTI may have a kidney infection and should Seek Medical Attention Immediately
- A fever of 101 degrees Fahrenheit or higher
- Chills
- Vomiting
- Pain in sides or flank of the back (just above the belt area)
