Controller

 

Primary Role

Prepares and monitors the College's annual budget; designs and maintains the accounting structure and accounting system; develops operating policies for compliance and control issues.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Coordinates, compiles, prepares, and publishes the College's annual operating budget. Solicits and analyzes income and expense data inputs from numerous individuals and sources.
  2. Designs and maintains the general ledger accounting system to record and track all authorized entries, including payroll expenditures and endowment activity. Prepares annual audited financial statements.
  3. Supervises the maintenance of accounting and financial services for accounts payable and receivable, grant accounting, College loan administration, and purchasing. Oversees financial performance of bookstore contract.
  4. Prepare special and annual financial reports. Respond to information requests for board and committee meetings as well as for other purposes.
  5. Performs related duties as assigned.

Supervision Required/Given

Works independently and under broad guidelines and direction. Must work cooperatively and collaboratively with diverse individuals and groups, internally and externally. Directly supervises a large support staff.

Position Qualifications

  1. Knowledge and capabilities normally acquired through a Bachelor's Degree in accounting and a CPA or Master's Degree required.
  2. Five years higher education of public accounting experience with demonstrated competencies in: staff supervision, financial and accounting PC software applications, and higher education financial accounting and reporting.
