Development Officer

 

Primary Role:

 

Focus upon strengthening and maintaining relationships through cultivating, soliciting and providing stewardship of gifts from individuals and business entities.  Participates as a member of the Advancement team to accomplish the overall missions of the department and the College.

 

Typical Duties

 

  1. Identifies and meets with donors and prospective donors for cultivation of relationships, solicitation and gift planning.  Listens to needs and priorities of donors.  Communicates needs and goals of Juniata.  Prepares and presents gift proposals and giving strategies to prospective donors in accordance with donor objectives and tax laws using cash, real estate, securities, retirement assets, life insurance and other valuable assets. Routinely follows up and communicates with prospects and donors.
  2. Organizes and manages the strategies directed toward society level donors.  Is the primary contact for the volunteers who assist with these strategies.
  3. Facilitates recognition vehicles for major donors such as plaques and donor lists.
  4. Maintains sections of the Development website and writes fundraising articles for the Juniata Magazine.
  5. Is a representative of the College at Alumni events and in the community. 
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.
 

Supervision Required/Given:

Works independently with discretion and judgment as to how best to achieve College goals.  Must work collaboratively and cooperatively with numerous and diverse individuals and groups.  Promotes teamwork and communication.

 

Position Qualifications:

 

  1. Knowledge and abilities normally acquired through the completion of at least a Bachelor’s degree.
  2. At least three years experience in charitable gift programs sufficient to demonstrate competency in prospect solicitation and fundraising success or related sales and marketing experience.  Estate, gift and tax planning, solicitation of gifts, and budget management are a plus.
  3. Must be willing to travel and work non-traditional hours.
  4. Computer literacy with the knowledge and understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite, Internet research, and database management.
