Development Specialist
Assists development staff members in arranging visits with alumni and friends of the College, prepares follow-up correspondence and major gift proposals, maintains contact records, and sends donor receipts. Additionally, the Development Specialist coordinates development functions and provides essential office support services such as file/data management, oral and written communication with donors and prospects, and personal/telephone reception. The Development Specialist provides primary support for the Associate Vice President and support services for the Director of Planned Giving. The Development Specialist carries important responsibilities with regard to relationships with donors, volunteers and prospects. Demonstrated abilities to relate to persons with care, to practice confidentiality, and to be well organized, extremely accurate and detail oriented, will be expected. The position reports to the Associate Vice President for Advancement.
Typical Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinate travel and secure appointments for the Associate Vice President for Advancement by reviewing locations of major prospects, noting previous contact records, and observing giving records. Gather information and other resources prior to staff visits.
- Draft donor centered receipt letters for Associate VP for Advancement, Director of Planned Giving and President.
- Coordinate marketing/solicitation materials and major gift proposals for all Campaigns. Produce correspondence and manage follow-up for donors, staff and volunteers.
- Coordinate itineraries, travel arrangements and necessary set-up for on-campus functions and meetings.
- Coordinate Associate Vice President's schedule
- Record contact reports, changes, and updates and follow-up with action items.
- Assist in event planning in conjunction with development and alumni staff.
Supervision Required/Given
Works independently carrying out defined responsibilities within established policies and guidelines. Must work collaboratively with diverse constituents. Supervises student workers when necessary.
Position Qualifications
- High school diploma plus knowledge and capabilities normally acquired through a business college degree or a high school emphasis in business.
- Advanced competency in MS office products including Excel, Access, Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Computer aptitude and experience demonstrating an ability to learn new software including database software such as Datatel's Benefactor.
- Outstanding communication skills.
- Positive and pleasant telephone habits.
- Excellent writing and proofreading skills.
- Commitment to confidentiality with regard to gifts, donors, and data.
- Three to five years work experience preferred.
