Director of the Raystown Field Station

Primary Role

Leads and manages the development of the field station facilities including the delivery of academic and research programming.


Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Plans for and insures effective delivery of and evaluates academic and research programs of the station, consistent with agreed upon short and long term goals.
  2. Markets station programs and offerings to prospective audiences. Identifies and pursues funding sources, including grant applications.
  3. Supervises and maintains station facilities, insuring equipment and building integrity and safe operation. Develops and maintains operating budgets.
  4. Prepares for and delivers lectures and laboratory course work. Provides academic.
  5. counseling and advising to students. Recruits and assists colleague faculty.
  6. Performs related duties as assigned.

 

Supervision Required/Given

Works independently with discretion and independent judgment as to how best to operate the station within agreed upon goals. Must work collaboratively and cooperatively with diverse individuals and customers. Supervises and oversees student assistants and works collaboratively with colleague faculty.


Position Qualifications

  1. Knowledge and capabilities normally acquired through completion of at least a Master's Degree in Biological Sciences, preferably a PhD.
  2. At least two years experience in teaching and basic research in biological sciences.
  3. Demonstrated experience with facilities planning and maintenance, including budget management and building mechanics maintenance.
  4. Demonstrated administrative expertise including selecting and supervising staff, writing grant proposals, promoting and marketing, and intermediate PC proficiency with office systems.
