Network Server Manager

 

Primary Role

To insure fully functioning computer network servers and support through monitoring all college servers, network traffic, and security provisions.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Insures the reliable functioning of network servers through visual checking and review of log files.
  2. Identify potential server problems, i.e. viruses, configuration problems, etc., and determine and implements actions to preclude or resolve problems.
  3. Supports server functioning by testing new software, building new servers, and maintaining current production software and hardware.
  4. Supports web development in a Unix/Apache environment.
  5. Documents changes made to servers and network equipment. Document procedures and system configurations.
  6. Aide in the development of long-term strategic goals and operating plans to guide server operations and development.
  7. Assists in supporting and maintaining certain aspects of the campus network.
  8. Performs related duties as assigned.

Supervision Required/Given

Supervised by the Network Manager under established guidelines and general direction. Must work cooperatively and collaboratively with others.

Position Qualifications

  1. Knowledge and abilities normally acquired through a Bachelor's Degree or technical training in information systems or computer technology or a relevant discipline.
  2. At least two years of computer network experience sufficient to demonstrate competency and capability with: Unix Operating Systems, Windows Advanced server/workstation, Microsoft Exchange Server, Web Server software and technology, network technology and maintenance, and configuration and maintenance of multi-user servers
