AROUND THE WORLD

Inbound_2013_250.jpg

The Around the World retreat welcomes all participants with a burning desire to understand and experience different cultures, foods, and places! This retreat aims to celebrate diversity by learning about various cultures and focusing on all the benefits worldwide travel has to offer. This year students will be touring the Cathedral of Learning’s Nationality Rooms in Pittsburgh and exploring all that the area has to offer! Other activities include International dinners with faculty advisors, learning about Study Abroad, and more!  This retreat is an excellent introduction to our language departments or to any international opportunities incoming students may be considering!

Each retreat will also have the opportunity to mingle with other retreats and participate in larger group activities and programs.

**Keep checking in for updates on the Around the World retreat throughout the spring as we move further along in the planning process.

Meet your Peer Leaders:

POE: Biochemistry

I am a junior studying biochemistry here at Juniata. I am a member of the ultimate frisbee team, multiple music ensembles and various other clubs on campus. I love to have fun and I have an unfortunate Netflix addiction. My favorite memory from Inbound was definitely making a bunch of close friends and being able to explore campus before the school year started. My favorite Juniata tradition has to be Mountain Day. Who wouldn't love a day with no classes spent hanging out at Lake Raystown?

POE: Business Management with a Concentration on Communication

I am interested in listening to the news, celebrity talk shows, learning history or visiting historical sites. I like playing musical instruments such as pianos and flutes during my free time. I play badminton and cycling. I am currently a club member in International Cooking Club and Swing Dance Club, a treasurer in Nourish International Club. I like communicating with people, talking to people, sharing my experience with them and listening to their experiences. My favorite thing about Juniata is that Juniata makes me feel inclusive in this community. It is like my home in the US. My best inbound memory was tie-dyeing the T-Shirt with the Diversity Inclusion. It was my first experience of tie-dyeing. I like seeing the shirt turning colors. It was so beautiful. My favorite JC tradition was kayaking on Raystown Lake on the Mountain Day and Multicultural Story Fest. Nourishing myself by learning about other cultures and sharing my cultures to others is really a happy thing for me.

POE: Anthropology

I am currently a junior and studying Anthropology, which is my main passion in my life.  I love traveling and experiencing different cultures.  I live on the Intercultural Floor in TNT and have made friends with students from Ecuador, Holland, France, Taiwan, Russia, Jamaica and many other countries.  My grandfather was born and raised in Greece so I have plenty of Greek heritage and therefore I love cooking and eating all kinds of Greek food.  My interests include reading, watching Netflix and lots of sleeping.  My favorite thing about Juniata is how it feels so much like home.

POE:  Geology

I'm Pat and I am looking forward to chilling with everyone for some inbound stuffs!  I love the environment and nature, playing piano, singing in the choir, and doing a bunch of churchy things around Juniata.  I really love Juniata for how welcoming they have been to unique personalities and the ridiculous amount of abroad opportunities that I've had!  There is so much to see and learn and I can't wait to show and share my experiences with you so that you can do even better!

POE: Chemistry

This will be my third year participating with the Inbound program; my second year as a peer leader. I could not imagine starting off the academic year in any better way!!! On campus I am involved with many activities, such as Chemistry Club, HOSA, Choral Union, JC Downhill, and Catholic Council and have participated in many events with the community service office. I also love to play tennis and read! This summer I will be living in Iowa City, IA working with a neonatologist who is a JC alumni and this upcoming spring I will be studying abroad in Leeds, UK. One of my favorite college memories is still my first night here on campus. I was able to meet up with friends I made at orientation and make many new friends. We stayed out on the campus quad until late in the night, playing frisbee, hanging out, and getting to know the place we would call home for the next 4 years. Many of those people are still my good friends today!

POE: World Language and Culture with Economics

I'm a senior focusing on literature and language at JC.  I'm also an editor for the Juniatian and have been abroad to France for a year.  Next year, I'll also be running a radio show and be an IA leader.  My favorite Juniata tradition would have to be tenting. The competition of it all is just amazing.
