Inbound is designed to help first-year students become aware of and engaged in the Juniata College community. Students arrive on campus five days prior to the start of classes to meet their fellow classmates and get a jump start on the transition into college life. Each group is led by two Peer Leaders (returning students) who serve as mentors and guides for the retreat group.
Additionally, each Inbound retreat is assigned one Juniata College faculty or staff member that has a special interest in working with first-year students. The advisor serves as a resource to the participants and Peer Leaders. This advisor position connects participants with a professional member of the Juniata community who can provide additional support to our first-year students throughout their transition into life at Juniata College.
Advisors may request which retreat they would like to work with, however, we ask that you also be flexible and willing to help make sure all retreats have an advisor.
Inbound Advisor Time Commitment
Your time commitment is depended on your availability and the individual schedules of each retreat. We ask that you try to spend at least 30 minutes to 1 hour with your retreat each day during the Inbound program. Some advisors choose to join their retreat group for meals while others adventure out with their retreat group for special activities – for instance, past advisors have gone backpacking, conquered white water rapids, completed community service projects, taught martial arts classes, and dominated bike trails. In addition, advisors will be invited to meet the Peer Leaders assigned to the same retreat during Peer Leader training.
If you are interested in being an advisor, please email email@example.com with your top three retreat preferences.
If you have any questions about the Inbound program or the responsibilities of an advisor, please do not hesitate to contact Natalie Hershberger at ext. 3308 or firstname.lastname@example.org
