Economic Development
Not only is JCEL working to enhance the region’s business climate through entrepreneurial support, but Juniata College and JCEL are committed to promoting economic development in the surrounding area.
By working closely with organizations like Huntingdon County Business and Industry (HCBI), the Huntingdon County Commissioners and our other important organizations, JCEL is partnering to make Huntingdon County an attractive place to do business. These relationships also prove beneficial to businesses as they mature and leave the Sill Business Incubator for a place in the community.
Several key target industries have been identified by the Partnership for Economic Progress (PEP) as representing the best growth opportunities for new businesses in the area. These include the Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ) focus on Information Technology and the Life Sciences, as well as the Enterprise Zone (EZ) focus on Tourism, Active Retirement and Wood Products.
