About Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Juniata College Library was founded on May 15, 1937, when a group gathered at the Carnegie Library “To bind together in an informal organization a group of persons with a mutual interest – the welfare of the Juniata College Library, so that they could more intelligently work for her interest; to suggest whereby ‘Friends’ may help in the up building of the Library, and to interest others so that they may desire to become Friends.”
Since the reorganization of the Friends in 1969, the group has continued to meet regularly in support of the present facility, the L.A. Beeghly Library, dedicated in 1963.
Over the years, the Friends have been responsible for many significant projects including climate control equipment in the Rare Book Room, support of Archivists, stained glass windows in the entryway, new curtains, blinds, carpets, furniture in many areas, shelving, new tabletops and a reference counter, to name a few.
Students hard at work in the library
The Friends continue their fruitful and dynamic relationship in “looking after” the library. Their contribution is relied upon to help make the library a comfortable and inviting place for our students and the college community. We look forward to increasing the ranks of the Friends.
If you are interested in joining please fill out the Friends membership form available at the circulation desk in the library. Friends are entitled to take out books at the library and may also wish to donate books or establish a book endowment in honor of a family member or friend.
