Biography

John received his bachelor's degree in journalism from Ohio State University in 1984. Prior to attending OSU, John was in the United States Air Force where he reached the rank of sergeant and specialized in law enforcement. After college, John entered worked in the magazine and newspaper industry.

Before coming to Juniata, John worked as a movie critic and editor in Tokyo, Japan at Pacific Stars and Stripes (1984), as a general assignment reporter at the Toledo Blade and as a reporter in Washington, D.C. for Insight Magazine (1985). In 1987, John became the assistant lifestyle editor of the Altoona Mirror. John was the paper’s main arts and features writer. He was the Mirror’s movie critic as well, and his reviews were syndicated by Thompson News Service to 140 newspapers. He left the Mirror in 1994 to be a writer-editor at Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences, where he wrote for the magazine, co-created a set of ag infographics, and wrote press releases. John also was a freelance book reviewer for three years.

In 2000, John was hired as Juniata's director of media relations, where he creates, edits and monitors Juniata’s press releases, writes Juniata alumni magazine articles and media contacts. He also oversees the college's web design team and social media team. John’s goal in the marketing office is to maintain a consistent flow of press releases and media mentions, ensuring media use Juniata as a creditable source.
