Artist Series Presents Violinist Janice Martin

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Violinist Janice Martin, who combines virtuoso technique with a highly entertaining performance style, will perform as part of the Juniata College Artist Series at 8:15 p.m., Friday, Nov. 12, in Rosenberger Auditorium in Oller Hall on the Juniata campus.

Single-show tickets for seniors over age 65 and children age 18 and under are $12. Juniata College students are admitted free with a student ID.
Martin will premiere her new instrumental show "Paganini-mania" at Juniata.
In "Paganini-mania, Martin combines the music of the Italian performer-composer and shows how his music has influenced Irish reels, American bluegrass, Indian and Asian music, jazz and salsa.
She plays both an electric violin and a Stradivarius acoustic violin and performs with a dance ensemble throughout the show.
She is renowned for her virtuosic technique and a passionate approach to playing. Trained as a dancer and actress in addition to her musical education, Martin is an infectiously vibrant performer who combines her musicianship with a dance and acrobatic sensibility.
She plays as a soloist with orchestras across the nation and internationally including the Milwaukee Symphony, the European Union Chamber Orchestra, the Pilsen Philharmonic in the Czech Republic and the New York Symphonic Ensemble.
She has won major violin competitions, including the Washington International Competition and the Milwaukee Young Artists Competition.
She released a solo CD, "Janice Martin" in 1999 and recently recorded the "Charles Barnett Violin Concerto." which was written for her, with the Aeolian Chamber Orchestra.
The Washington Post music critic wrote of her, "A chamber musician of consummate elegance."
