(Posted March 14, 2005)

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Todd Goodman, composer-in-residence for the Altoona Symphony Orchestra, will talk about a new composition he has written for the Juniata College Wind Symphony, "River of Sorrows," at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 17 in Alumni Hall in the Brumbaugh Academic Center on the Juniata campus.

The event is intended for community residents and is open to the public.

The new composition will be performed at the Wind Symphony's April 17 concert. The composition is based in part on a recent history book, "Juniata: River of Sorrows" by Dennis McIlnay.

Goodman, a native of Bedford, Pa., earned a bachelor's degree in music at the University of Colorado-Boulder and currently is in a master's degree program at the University of Pittsburgh. He has served as the Altoona ensemble's composer in residence since 2002.
He has written eight pieces for the Altoona Symphony, including " Symphony No. 1," "Fanfare for a New Era" and "Sketches of Home."
