HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Erik Evans, former executive director of alumni and development at Lock Haven University, has accepted a position as associate vice president for development at Juniata College effective immediately.
"Erik has overseen the growth in alumni programs and a capital campaign at Lock Haven and his leadership perfectly positions us for the next phase of Juniata's development," says Thomas Kepple, president of Juniata College. "At the finish of our own capital campaign, which raised a record $103 million, Erik will play a critical role in Juniata's strategic planning and further fundraising."
Evans joins Juniata's administrative team from Lock Haven University, where he was executive director of alumni and development from 1998 to 2005. He oversaw Lock Haven's largest capital campaign, which raised $11.6 million and was responsible for raising money to finance the $8.9 million Alumni Conference Center. He also helped establish 26 new scholarships at the university.
As alumni director, Evans increased the alumni giving rate during the campaign and organized an alumni golf tournament that has raised $125,000 for student scholarships.
Evans earned a bachelor's degree in speech communications in 1988 from Lock Haven and went on to earn a master's degree in business education in 1995 from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.
He started his career in business, working as a commercial underwriter for Selective Insurance Co. in Branchville, N.J. from 1989 to 1991. In 1991 he was named marketing manager for Superior Insurance Co. in Atlanta Ga., a position he held until 1994.
After earning a master's degree in 1995, Evans refocused his career on teaching, working as a business education teacher at Tamaqua Area High School in 1996. He taught business education at Middleburg High School from 1997 to 1998.
He has remained active in the Lock Haven community, participating in the Clinton County Economic Partnership and as a member of the Lock Haven and Williamsport Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of Rotary International. He is a member and past president of the Lock Haven University Band Alumni Association and is an active coach in Little League and youth soccer. He is a member of the Big Woods Bible Church.
He has attended and presented talks at numerous professional conferences and has served on a variety of university committees, including the Dean's Alumni Advisory Council, the Employee Recognition Committee and the Capital Campaign Steering Committee.
