Huntingdon, Pa. - An offensive explosion propelled the Juniata College field hockey team to its fourth-consecutive victory with a 9-0 win over Washington and Jefferson in Huntingdon Friday afternoon. Seven different Eagles scored goals as the home team improved its record to 5-5. The visiting team dropped to 4-6 with the loss.

After a five-game losing skid dropped Juniata to 1-5 early in the year, the Eagles has pulled their record back to .500 with its current four-game winning streak.

Juniata looked determined to extend the streak early as the Blue and Gold knocked in four first-half goals. Michelle Campbell (Northern Lebanon/Annville) got things going just seven minutes into the match as she knocked home a lose ball in a scramble in front of the goal to put the Eagles on top 1-0. Just slightly more than a minute later Kim Wagner (Middletown/Middletown) broke free into the circle after a pass from Cory Hamblet (South Carroll/Westminster, Md.) and drove a low hard shot into the lower right corner to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

After the teams traded possession for much of the next 10 minutes another Juniata scoring spurt gave the home team a comfortable lead. Wagner drove a low cross right in front of the goal that Lizzie French (Huntingdon/Allensville) drove home for her second goal of the year. Two minutes later Wagner knocked in her second tally of the match to put Juniata in front 4-0.

Washington and Jefferson had a pair of shots in the first 35 minutes, but couldn't get past the Eagles' defense or keeper Andrea Way (Fair Haven Union/Fair Haven, Vt.).

Juniata offensive attack picked up just 38 seconds in the second frame as Wagner hit another cross through the circle, with Meredith Low (Aston/Sun Valley) this time the recipient as she knocked it into the net.

Sara Roux (Lewiston/Lewiston, Me.) kept the Juniata offense rolling in the 49th minute when she deflected home a Wagner cross to make the score 6-0 Juniata. French then notched her second score of the game as she collected a rebound and flipped a backhanded shot in the upper right corner with just under 20 minutes remaining.

The final two scores game with less than 10 minutes remaining in the match. Elise Zimmerman (Cumberland Valley/Boiling Springs) found the ball at her feet after one of Juniata's 12 penalty corner and drove it into the right corner for her second goal of the season. Freshman Breanne Loso then capped the scoring in the 66th minute with her first collegiate goal.

Juniata finished the match with 24 shots, and forced Washington & Jefferson keeper Heather Browne into seven saves.

Juniata will get back in action with a conference match next Wednesday when the Eagles welcome Susquehanna to Huntingdon.
