Juniata 1, Frostburg State 0

Huntingdon, Pa. ? Kim Wagner (Middletown/Middletown) scored 11 minutes into the first overtime period to extend Juniata?s winning streak to seven games as the Eagles topped Frostburg State 1-0 in Huntingdon Tuesday afternoon. The win improved the Eagles to 8-5 while Frostburg fell to 7-5.

The seven-match winning streak is a new program record for Juniata. The Eagles had a six-game winning streak last season which had been the previous longest streak for the field hockey team.

Juniata extended the streak as Wagner scored her team-high eighth goal 11 minutes into the overtime session. The goal came off Juniata?s 24th penalty corner as the ball came to Wagner on the right side of the circle and she drove it through a crowd and had it roll into the cage.

Prior to the goal Frostburg had the best chance of the overtime period just one minute in when Tawni Buck broke free and fired a low shot that was turned away by Andrea Way (Fair Haven Union/Fair Haven, Vt.). Way made three saves in goal to help post her second-consecutive shutout.

The Eagles had the best chances throughout, but were unable to find the back of the Frostburg goal. Kristin Cousin made 10 saves in goal for the Bobcats, including stopping a Wagner penalty stroke in the first half. Frostburg also had a defensive save from Bissy Armstrong in the first half to quell a Juniata scoring threat.

Both teams had chances in the second half, with Juniata forcing 11 penalty corners and taking eight shots. Frostburg had three shots in the period including a Buck penalty stroke which missed wide with just two minutes remaining in the match.

Juniata gets back in action on Tuesday with a conference match against 14th-ranked Lebanon Valley.
