Juniata Swimmers Unable To Top Albright

(Posted November 11, 2005)

Amy Sutherland captured a pair of first-place finishes for Juniata in its dual-meet against Albright.

Huntingdon, Pa. ? For the second time this season the Juniata College women?s swimming team turned in a strong performance against one of the top teams in the Middle Atlantic Conference, only to fall short on the scoreboard as the Eagles suffered a 120-78 set-back to defending conference champion Albright College Friday night in Huntingdon. Juniata drops to 1-2 in dual-meet action on the season, while the Lions improved to 3-0.

Amy Sutherland (Norwich/Norwich, N.Y.) continued her strong early-season efforts as she captured both of Juniata?s individual race wins on the night. Sutherland swam a blistering 2:16.11 time to earn a win in the 200 freestyle. Her time was just shy of establishing a new school record in the event.

She followed up that performance by touching the wall first in the 100 backstroke, again recording a solid time of 1:12.25 in the event.

Juniata enjoyed a solid race in the 800 freestyle as Kim Dierolf (Boyertown/Boyertown) and Kasey Brough (Carlisle/Gardners) placed second and third in the race. The Eagles added another second and third-place effort in the 200 IM as Carlie Zoubek (Paul IV/Burke, Va.) and Jenny Bair (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) each swam lifetime best times to claim second and third respectively.

Zoubek added another lifetime best swim wit her third-place effort in the 100 butterfly, while Kristin Musselman (Central Columbia/Bloomsburg) and Amy Hanson (Lancaster Catholic/Elizabethtown) swam strong times to place third and fourth respectively in the 100 freestyle.

Juniata will be back in the pool again on Saturday as the Eagles swim in a tri-meet against MAC foes Drew and Lebanon Valley at Lebanon Valley.
