(Posted November 19, 2005)
Scranton, Pa. ? The Juniata College women?s swimming team continued its early-season trend of strong performances, but the team?s effort was not enough as the Eagles dropped a 122-80 decision to the University of Scranton in Middle Atlantic Conference dual-meet action on Saturday. Juniata dropped to 3-3 with the set-back and is now 2-3 in conference meets. Scranton raised its record to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
Juniata got off to a strong start by earning a first and second-place finish in the 1,000 freestyle. Kim Dierolf (Boyertown/Boyertown) touched the wall first while teammate Kasey Brough (Carlisle/Gardners) was right behind her in second place.
The Eagles then got two more first-place finishes from Amy Sutherland (Norwich/Norwich, N.Y.). Sutherland claimed the victory in the 200 freestyle to start her day, and then added a win in the 200 backstroke.
Along with the three wins, the Eagles added another pair of runner-up finishes on the day. Kristin Musselman (Central Columbia/Bloomsburg) placed second in the 100 freestyle. Juniata?s other second-place effort came from Jenny Bair (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) in the 200 breaststroke.
Juniata returns to action with another conference meet as the Eagles welcome MAC foe Lycoming to Huntingdon for a dual meet on Monday night.
