Juniata 91, Pitt-Greensburg 72

Huntingdon, Pa. ? The Juniata College men?s basketball team shot a blistering 60-percent from the field and rode a 13-point halftime lead to a 91-72 victory over Pitt-Greensburg in the championship game of the 2005 Mutual Benefit Group ?Doc? Greene Invitational Saturday night. Juniata improved to 2-0 to take the title.

Travis Boyd (Juniata Valley/Barree) scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds en route to being named the Tournament Most Valuable Player, while Brian Cannon (Fallston/Fallston) scored a game-high 24 points and was selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Juniata never trailed in the game, jumping out to a quick six-point lead on a basket from Chris Jasiota (Oil City/Oil City). Juniata maintained at least a five-point cushion for most of the half, and then had a Boyd three sparked a 10-2 run that left the Eagles leading by 14. Nick Hager (Franklin/Franklin) hit a three to close the run and send Juniata into halftime leading by 13.

An early second-half run helped Juniata put the game away. The Eagles outscored the Bobcats 20-11 in the first five minutes of the second half, with four-straight points from Cannon spearheading the attack.

Pitt-Greensburg fought back to cut the lead to 11 with just under six minutes remaining. A jumper from Tommy McConnell (Bishop Guilfoyle/Hollidaysburg) halted the run and sent Juniata on a 10-0 run that put the game away.

McConnell and Jasiota both added 12 points for Juniata on the game, while Boyd was tops on the team with five assists.

Bill Scavincky paced Pitt-Greensburg with 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field and 9-of-11 shooting from the line. Daniel Waajid finished with a ?double-double? as he scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
