(Posted November 21, 2005)
Huntingdon, Pa. ? The visiting Lycoming College swimming team proved to be a bit too much for the Juniata College women?s swimming team to overcome, as the Eagles fell by a 156.5-105.5 score in Middle Atlantic Conference action in Huntingdon Monday night. Juniata is now 3-4 on the year and 2-4 in MAC meets, while Lycoming improved to 5-2 on the season and 4-1 in conference.
The Eagles got started early as they claimed the top three spots in the 800 freestyle. Kasey Brough (Carlisle/Gardners) touched the wall first, followed by Collin Thompson (Altoona/Altoona) and Rachel Almy (Foxcroft Academy/Charleston, Maine).
Brough later added a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle posting a time of 4:55.01.
Amy Sutherland (Norwich/Norwich, N.Y.) earned another two first-place finishes to help Juniata?s cause. She began by earning a top finish in the 200 backstroke, and then claimed a win in the 200 IM. Sutherland was also the second-place finisher in the 100 backstroke.
Juniata?s final top finish came from freshman Kristin Musselman (Central Columbia/Bloomsburg) who swam 1:12.72 to earn a victory in the 100 butterfly. Musselman also claimed a runner-up finish in the 200 freestyle on the evening.
Also claiming runner-up finishes for Juniata were Amy Hanson (Lancaster Catholic/Elizabethtown) in the 100 freestyle and Jenny Bair (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) in the 200 breaststroke.
Juniata will get back in action at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational the first weekend of December.
