Eagles Tracksters Finish Strong Before MAC Meet

SELINSGROVE, Pa.? One week before the Juniata College men?s and women?s indoor track and field teams will take on the best in the conference at the MAC Championships, the Eagles got one final chance for a tuneup at the Susquehanna Open in Selinsgrove Friday evening.
The top performances on the women?s side came in the jumping events with a pair of second-place finishes. Kelsey Buffenmyer (Donegal/Mount Joy) leapt to a second-place finish in the high jump and then earned another runner-up effort in the long jump.
On the track the top finish came from Juniata senior Meredith Troutman (Meyersdale/Meyersdale) who ran to a sixth-place finish in the 200. A pair of eighth-place finishes, one from Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) in the mile, and one from Buffenmyer in the 55-meter hurdles rounded out the top-eight finishes on the women?s side.
The Juniata men continued their strong efforts in the sprints as a pair of top-6 finishes in the 55-meter dash marked the top finishes for the Juniata men. Randy Anderson (DuBois/DuBois) was second in the event, while Dusty Sier (Smithsburg/Smithsburg, Md.) placed fifth. Anderson then produced a third-place effort in the 200. Also earning top-eight finishes on the track for the Eagles were Mike Chirdon (Riverview/Verona) who claimed a sixth-place finish in the 3,000 and Tripp Rudolph (Upper St. Clair/Pittsburgh) ran to a seventh-place finish in the 800. Mark Modak (Sandy Spring Friends/Gaithersburg, Md.) rounded out the individual efforts with a sixth-place effort in the 55-meter hurdles. The Eagles also claimed a first-place effort in the distance medley relay as the team of Chris Sheaffer (Central York/York), Shawn Rumery (Dayton Academy/Thornton, Maine), Eric Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, Del.) and Justin Fritzius (Central York/York) posted a time of 10:52.63 to earn the win.
The Juniata men also enjoyed several strong efforts in the jumps, highlighted by a second and third-place finish in the long jump. Matthew Booth (Allentown Central Catholic/Allentown) was the runner-up in the event, while Anderson placed third. Booth then capped Juniata?s top-eight finishes with a fifth-place leap in the triple jump.
Juniata returns to action on the very same track next weekend when they compete at the MAC Championships in Selinsgrove.
