Kristen Kirk Named To Conference Honor Roll

Kristen Kirk was named to the conference honor roll for the second time this season for her play in the final week of the 2005-06 season.

Huntingdon, PA - Juniata College senior basketball player Kristen Kirk (Newport/Newport) has been selected to the MAC Honor Roll for her play in the final two games of her career. Along with Players of the Week for both the Commonwealth and Freedom Conferences, the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Conference names three individuals to the MASCAC Honor Roll. The selection marks the second time this season she was named to the conference honor roll and is the fifth weekly award that the Juniata women's basketball captured during the season.

Kirk capped a memorable career with a memorable performance in her final game as she became the ninth player in the history of the Juniata women's basketball program to score 1,000 career points. Needing 13 points to reach the milestone she scored a game-high 21 to lead Juniata to a season-ending win over Albright. Earlier in the week she scored 15 points in a conference game against Susquehanna. Kirk shot 43 percent from the field on the week and knocked down seven three-point shots. She also grabbed four rebounds, dished out four assists and earned a pair of steals on the week.

Kirk enjoyed a strong all-around season in her final campaign in helping Juniata to a final record of 13-12. She finished second on the team in scoring, averaging just over 12 points per contest and topped 300 points for the second time in her career. She shot a career-best 43 percent from the field on the season and also passed out a team-high and a career-high 62 assists. Kirk also finished second on the team with 33 steals while adding 39 three pointers which was also second. A three-year starter and an All-Conference selection as a sophomore, Kirk closed her career with 1,008 points, the ninth-highest total in Juniata history. She closed her career with 133 made three pointers, which ranked her second in Juniata history in that category.

Kirk's play helped Juniata post just its second winning season in the last 13 years, and the first since the 1999-2000 season. Juniata improved from 5-19 a season ago to 13-12, an improvement of eight wins which tied the program record for the second-largest single-season turnaround. The Eagles also finished 6-8 in the Commonwealth Conference after winning a combined three conference games in the previous two years.
