(Posted March 30, 2006)
GREENSBURG, Pa. ? After pulling out a pair of one-point victories earlier in the week, the Juniata College men?s tennis team had the tables turned Thursday afternoon as Juniata dropped a 5-4 decision to Seton Hill in Greensburg. It was the first loss of the season for Juniata which had opened the year with nine-consecutive victories. Seton Hill raised its record to 7-3.
After Seton Hill claimed two of the three doubles points, Juniata needed to earn four victories in singles action to claim the win. The Eagles claimed three wins, and had late leads in the third set of two other singles matches, but were unable to secure the win.
Juniata did earn a third-set win from freshman Ryan Navarro (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) who overcame a one-set deficit to claim a 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 victory.
Also posting singles wins on the day were Neil Eicher (Altoona/Altoona) at first singles and Jonathan Skoner (Central Catholic/Pittsburgh) at second singles. Eicher earned a 7-5, 6-3 win and Skoner rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 triumph. Both the fourth and sixth singles matches were extended to three sets, but the Eagles were unable to come away with the decisive win.
Eicher also earned a victory at first doubles as he teamed with Brandon Long (Lebanon/Lebanon) for an 8-6 doubles triumph.
Juniata is back in action on Monday with a non-conference match at Lycoming.
