Altoona Student Receives Fulbright Fellowship to Germany

Brian Wilson, a senior from Altoona, will spend this summer and next year teaching English in a German high school.

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Brian Wilson, a senior at Juniata College from Altoona, Pa. studying international business, international politics and German, has received a Fulbright Fellowship to teach English at a high school in Germany through 2007.

Wilson, the son of Herb and Kitty Wilson of Altoona, will work at Siemens AG in Germany this summer before starting his fellowship in the fall. Wilson will receive a bachelor's degree from Juniata at the college's commencement ceremony in May and also will receive an undergraduate degree from Fachhochschule Gelsenkirchen University in Bocholt, Germany as part of Juniata's dual-degree program with the European university.

Wilson spent a year studying abroad at the Bocholt campus throughout 2005. He received the German Academic Exchange Service's (DAAD) undergraduate scholarship for study in Germany as part of his year abroad. This highly competitive scholarship is for qualified undergraduate students to fund senior thesis research, internships, and study in Germany. DAAD is a German national agency aiming to bring together US, Canadian and German Universities, professors and students, to provide fellowships and programs for students from the United States and Canada and to promote Germany's academic, scientific and cultural accomplishments.

While in Germany he also completed an internship at Siemens, AG in Munich, Germany. He is a member of the Model UN student club.

He is the recipient of the Calvert Ellis Scholarship and the Eagles Abroad Scholarship.
