Soccer Men Stopped By Albright
(Posted October 7, 2006)
Albright 4, Juniata 0 HUNTINGDON, Pa. â?? A pair of goals in each half were too much for the Juniata College men\'s soccer team to overcome as the Eagles suffered a 4-0 setback to Commonwealth foe Albright College Saturday afternoon in Huntingdon. Juniata is now 5-8 on the year and 0-3 in the conference, while Albright raised its record to 6-3-2 and 2-1-1 on conference play. The Eagles did not have an answer for Albright striker Tom Tarico who netted a hat-trick, including both first half goals to put the visitors in front. The Eagles had several good scoring chances early, but were unable to redirect the ball off of corner kicks. Where the Eagles could not finish, Albright did. Talarico got the Lions on the board in the 15th minute of the game when he was able to get by the last Juniata defender and tap the ball into the goal before goalie Mark Guthridge (DuBois/DuBois) could recover. He added his second goal just four minutes before halftime as Albright took a 2-0 lead into intermission. Juniata\'s best chance of the match came in the first half when Josh Cady (Malvern Prep./Frazer) beat the keeper but was unable to get his shot on target. The match was physical in the second half as Albright piled up 16 fouls, and Juniata had a player sent off with a red card in the 70th minute. Talarico added to the advantage with his third goal, which came in the 63rd minute and then the Lions capped the scoring with a man advantage when Shawn Gentile found the back of the net at 73:18. Guthridge finished with one save for the Blue and Gold on the day while Joe Hartman played the first half in net for the Lions and made a pair of stops. Werden Hannaford played the final 45 minutes in goal for Albright. The shots in the match were nearly even as the Eagles produced eight to Albright\'s nine. The Eagles will get back in action next Saturday with a match at Commonwealth opponent Lebanon Valley. ###
