Eagle Men Run Well In Dual Meet

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Juniata College men\'s and women\'s cross country teams insured they would take plenty of momentum into next weekend\'s MAC Championships as the Eagles swept a dual meet against Penn State-Altoona Friday afternoon in Huntingdon. With both teams running 5,000 the Juniata women captured each of the first five places to earn a 15-50 victory, while Juniata\'s men\'s team had five runners in the top six to claim a 19-44 win. MENâ??S The men\'s race came down to a dramatic finish as Juniata junior Eric Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, Del.) out-kicked several other competitors to finish as the overall winner with a time of 16:52. Matt Bailey (Hempfield/East Petersburg) was third overall and second for Juniata as he ran a time of 17:10. Juniata\'s third runner was Mike Chirdon (Riverview/Verona) who crossed the line in fourth place in a time of 17:27. Jason Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, Del.) finished in fifth position running a time of 17:42. Rounding out the scoring performances for the Eagles was Tripp Rudolph (Upper St. Clair/Pittsburgh) whose time of 18:07 earned him a sixth-place finish. WOMENâ??S Aubrey Cyphert (Seneca/North East) was the top overall finisher as Juniata claimed the top five places in the race to earn its victory. Cyphert was 10 seconds ahead of the next competitor as she ran a time of 20:54. Juniata\'s second runner across the line was Meghan Jones (Meadville/Meadville) who ran a time of 21:03. The third runner for the Eagles was Lia Bella (Morris Catholic/Rockaway, N.J.) who posted a time of 21:24. Kristen Gochnauer (Warwick/Lititz) was the fourth finisher in the race as she posted a time of 21:42. Finally, Megan Peterson (Canton/Canton) was Juniata\'s fifth runner, crossing the finish line just a hair under 22 minutes as she covered the course in 21:51. Juniata will be back in action next Saturday as the Eagles travel to DeSales for the MAC Championships. ###
