Juniata Orchestra to Perform with Chancel Choir at Concert

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College Orchestra, together with guest performers the Huntingdon Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir, will perform a major work by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart for the 250th anniversary of the composer's birth at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 10 in Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts on the Juniata campus.
Admission to the concert is $3. Juniata students with ID and children under age 18 are admitted free.
The Juniata College Orchestra is directed by James Latten, assistant professor of music at Juniata.
The orchestra will perform "Symphony No. 40," written by Mozart in 1788, during a productive period where the composer also completed the 39th and 41st symphonies in just a few weeks.
The orchestra also will perform "Trisagion," by Estonian composer Arvo Part. Part is considered a "sacred minimalist" composer. He is best known for his choral compositions.
The concert will end with a performance of the "Hallelujah Chorus," by Georg Friedrich Handel. The Huntingdon Presbyterian Church Choir will perform the choral parts with the orchestra. The choir is directed by Tim Flinchbaugh. The Juniata students in the orchestra are: Violin: Kurt Ammerman, a sophomore from Philipsburg, Pa.; Emily Gray, a freshman from Hummelstown, Pa.; Ye Kyung Kwon, a sophomore from Enola, Pa.; Qimin Sheng, a senior from Corpus Christi, Texas; and Emily Tagliati, a sophomore from Hollidaysburg. In the second section: Heidi Blasenak, a senior from Harrisburg, Pa.; Malea Hetrick, a freshman from Port Matilda, Pa.; Jessica Mann, a senior from Northampton, Pa.; Karla Rodriguez, a sophomore from Huntington Station, N.Y.; and Steven Liong, a freshman from Tombeau Bay, Mauritus.
Viola: Kalen Braeunig, a sophomore from Matamoras, Pa.; Alison Heft, a sophomore from Frederick, Md.; Amelia Hewner, a sophomore from Ransomville, N.Y.; Kalin Shipman, a sophomore from Cogan Station, Pa.; Sarah Slat, a freshman from Hollidaysburg, Pa. and Megan Thro, a senior from Wrightsville, Pa.
