Juniata Screens \'Inconvenient Truth\' for Climate Call to Action

(Posted January 29, 2007)

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- As part of a Climate Challenge Call to Action event, Juniata College will screen the acclaimed documentary film "An Inconvenient Truth," in which former Vice President Al Gore outlines the implications of global warming, at 7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 29 in Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts on the Juniata campus.
The film and the evening event is free and open to the public. The film is followed by a community discussion in the auditorium after the film ends. The discussion will focus on global warming and how a local community can change its culture to address sustainability issues.
The film, directed by Davis Guggenheim, is a riveting exploration of the effects of global warming centered on a single multimedia presentation by Al Gore. In addition, the film follows Gore as he visits various cities and sites to illustrate the effects of global warming. The film is in contention to be nominated for Best Documentary in the upcoming Oscar race.
Starting at 6 p.m. in the lobbies of Rosenberger Auditorium and the Halbritter Center, there will be several tables and displays set up to highlight efforts on- and off-campus to combat global warming. The displays, barring unforeseen circumstances, will include:
--A letter-writing booth to help citizens write letters to local and national politicians.
--A table with compact fluorescent bulbs and programmable thermostats for sale.
--A table where citizens can sign up to opt out of junk mail mailing lists.
--Tables with information on wind energy, recycling, auto-emission credits, re-usable bags for grocery shopping and information for joining a local action committee.
