Track Men Place Fifth At Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - In a rare midweek meet with several of the team\'s conference rivals, the Juniata College men\'s and women\'s track teams each produced strong finishes at the Elizabethtown Pentangular on Wednesday. The Juniata women placed third in the five-team field with 103 points while the men were fifth with 51 points. Leading the Juniata effort for the women was Caitlin Hinson (Danville/Danville) who won the 100 with a time of 13.38. Also earning a win on the day was Kelsey Buffenmyer (Donegal/Mount Joy) who placed first in the high jump with a leap of 1.65 meters. That mark was a provisional qualifying height for the NCAA Division III Championships. She also was second in the long jump as she recorded a leap of 5.02 meters. The Eagles also had a new school record on the day. Lia Bella crossed the line in second place in the 3,000 with a time of 10:48.36 which ranks as a new Juniata record. Juniata also piled up points in the throwing events as they had at least two people score in nearly all the events. Maggie Wolenter (Audubon/Audubon, N.J.) was first in the discus with a best toss of 28.44 meters. Katie Tavener (Spring-Ford/Oaks) was fourth in the event. Wolenter was second in the hammer throw with an effort of 30.88 meters and was followed by Regina Diehl (Camp Hill/Camp Hill) who was third. Tavener added fourth-place effort in the hammer. Diehl then record a third-place finish in the javelin with a best effort of 32.07 meters. On the track the Juniata women got a pair of second-place finishes. Cassie Majocha (Burrell/Upper Burrell) was second in the 400 running a time of 1:03.56. Laura Rupprecht (Brunswick/Jefferson, Md.) ran a time of 2:28.41 in the 800 to place second. Melissa Johnson (John F. Kennedy/Colonia, N.J.) place third in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:08.49. On the men\'s side Juniata again had a pair of first-place performances. John West III (W.B. Saul/Philadelphia) was the top finisher in the 100 with a time of 11.25. Dusty Sier (Smithsburg/Smithsburg, Md.) was fourth in the race. Also capturing a win was Kyle Mazur (Morris Catholic/Ogdensburg, N.J.) who produced a toss of 54.70 meters to win the javelin. Tommy Beideman (Perkiomen Valley/Collegeville) was fifth in the javelin. Mazur also earned points by placing sixth in the shot put. Randy Anderson (DuBois/DuBois) picked up points off the track with a second-place finish in the triple jump by leaping 12.47 meters. On the track Juniata had two athletes place in the 400. Tripp Rudolph (Upper St. Clair/Pittsburg) was fifth in a time of 52.38 and Eric Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, Del.) was sixth. Juniata was also fifth and sixth in the 3,000 as Jason Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, Del.) was fifth by running 9:19.40 and Shawn Rumery (Thornton Academy/Dayton, Maine) was sixth. Juniata returns to action at the Bucknell Outdoor Carnival on April 13. ###
