Women\'s volleyball downs Washington Univ. in title game rematch
(Posted September 14, 2007)
ST. LOUIS - Second-ranked Juniata College rallied from a 2-0 deficit to down fourth-ranked Washington University (Mo.), 3-2, in opening night action at the Bears\' Fourth Annual Teri Clemens Invitational Tournament, Friday night in St. Louis, Mo. Game scores were 21-30, 32-34, 30-19, 30-26, and 15-11. The clash with Wash.U. was a rematch of the 2006 NCAA Division III National Championship, in which Juniata bested the Bears, 3-2. \"It was a very good match against a very good team,\" said Juniata head coach Larry Bock. \"We knew that win or lose, we were going to be better for it.\" After dropping the first two games, it looked like it might be the latter option. But the Eagles (10-1 overall) opened the third game 8-0 on the serving efforts of junior Beth Kozak (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon), and cruised to a comparatively easy third-game win. \"That sort of turned things around a little bit,\" said Bock. \"We made no big adjustments -- we just started to pick up the game plan a bit better.\" Junior Amber Thomas (Ephrata, Pa./Conestoga Valley) finished the game with 24 kills for the Eagles, while junior Megan Sollenberger (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) tallied five aces and 30 digs. Junior Erin Albert (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) had three blocks on the evening. Juniata continues play in the Teri Clemens Invitational on Saturday with matches against #3 Wisconsin-Whitewater and #14 University of La Verne. -30-
