Juniata Hosts Muslim Chaplain for Lecture Event

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Yahya Hendi, Muslim chaplain at Georgetown University and Imam of the Islamic Society of Frederick, Md., will speak at Juniata College on \"Islam and World Peace: Islam, Women and Terrorism,\" at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 6 in Neff Lecture Hall in the von Liebig Center for Science on the Juniata campus.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
\"The lecture will definitely educate our fellow Juniata students (and help them know) more about Islam and Muslims,\" says Jawad Peikar, an international student from Afghanistan and president of the Muslim Students Association, which is sponsoring the lecture.
Hendi, according to his online biography, is the first full-time Muslim chaplain hired by an American university. He also serves as the Muslim chaplain at the national Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., and is a member and spokesperson for the Islamic Jurisprudence Council of North America.
He is an adjunct faculty member in the Johns Hopkins University Office of Professional Development and at Fordham University.
